CHINA-PHARM 2011 Grandly Opened in Shanghai

Larger Scale to Accelerate Industry Updating in the era of New GMP

The 16th China International Pharmaceutical Industry Exhibition (CHINA-PHARM 2011), organized by China Center for Pharmaceutical International Exchange and Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., opened on Oct 25th, 2011. The exhibition area of CHINA-PHARM this year expanded to cover 28,000m2 to demonstrate the newest pharmaceutical equipments, technologies and solutions of 470 exhibitors from 24 countries.

As an international trade fair, world-famous overseas organizations such as International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC), German Engineering Federation(VDMA), Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA), and Messe Düsseldorf GmbH (MD), the organizer of the world No.1 packaging exhibition Interpack offered their support to CHINA-PHARM as well.

New GMP, New Opportunity.

Thanks to China's booming market in pharmaceutical industry, CHINA-PHARM has become an important gateway for domestic and overseas pharmaceutical equipment companies to enter the market in China. Compared with the previous version of "Good Manufacturing Practice" (GMP), the newly-implemented version entails higher standards in hardware set-up, software management and staff training. The new version of GMP took the GMP in the European union               and WHO as reference, an effort that was interpreted by the industry as "keeping abreast with the international standards". However, given the relatively weaker basis in pharmaceutical engineering, limited availability of references, and lack of expertise, China's pharmaceutical engineering industry fell short of experience compared with their international counterparts. Therefore, for China' pharmaceutical engineering industry, the new version of GMP poses both opportunities for improvement as well as stern challenges. The newly-published GMP is in line with the standards and regulations in the European union    , particularly the requirements for sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing and biopharmaceutical manufacturing were almost identical to that of European union     Addendum One. This is certainly a considerable challenge for Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises. Besides, the idea of "sterile pharmaceutical products production isolation" was included by the new GMP for the first time, which posed new requirement on the isolation system of sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing companies.

CHINA-PHARM 2011 is the grand getting-together for domestic and overseas pharmaceutical equipment industries after the implementation of new version of GMP. CHINA-PHARM not only provides a platform of competition for both Chinese and international suppliers of pharmaceutical equipment, but also establishes a channel for communication for better understanding of the new GMP. Exhibitors such as Austar, Bosch, Eisai, Fette, ristam, GEA, Marchesini, NNE, Optima, PHARMAPACK, pester pac, Riechermann, OMMELAG, Siebler and Göring, Ulmann, Weiss, Changsha Chutian Science and Technology Co., Double-Crane Pharmaceutical Equipment, Beijing Gylongli Sci&Tech, Shangdong Shinva Medical Instrument, Shanghai Tianxiang and Chentai Pharmaceutical Machinery, Shanghai Wato Pharmaceutical Machinery joined CHINA-PHARM this year with their most advanced equipment and technology. New exhibitors made up for 45% of the total, focusing mainly on process control, fluid industry, automation and cleaning equipment, a testimony of the match of market demands with the requirements in new GMP. As new exhibitors joined CHINA-PHARM, previous exhibitors also expanded their booth areas.

As a world-renowned communication platform for medical products, exhibitors around the world and distinguished international associations also sent delegations to CHINA-PHARM to strengthen international exchange. German and UK pavilions joined the exhibition once again to experience the impacts and drive of new GMP in Chinese market. German delegation, who enjoyed a history of more than 10 years, maintained a strong momentum in presence. Irish Pavilion, Canadian info booth and Australian info booth, and joint pavilion of 11 ASEAN nations participated in the exhibition for the first time.

Diversified Forums and Seminars, CHINA-PHARM is beyond an exhibition

Other than the display of pharmaceutical equipment and the provision of consulting service, another highlight of CHINA-PHARM is the top-notch technology exchange forum. The organizer of the exhibition continued to work with International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) and International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC) to hold a large-scale forum. Moreover, CHINA-PHARM 2011 joined with domestic and overseas organizations and associations, such as World Health Organization (WHO), Drug Information Association (DIA), World Self-Medication Industry (WSMI), and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), to feature academic exchanges to reinforce CHINA-PHARM's position as an international communication platform for medical products.

With 5-year-parternship of CHINA-PHARM, ISPE staged a series of forums at CHINA-PHARM 2011 with the theme of "Share global best practices; give thorough interpretation of new GMP". The forum includes a keynote forum and 5 sub-forums, focusing on solid oral dosage form, public project, sterile production, quality system, testing and validation respectively. Officials from pharmaceutical regulation bodies, World Health Organization (WHO), experts from ISPE and representatives of established companies will deliver speeches at the forum.

With the publication of Drug Master File (DMF), the organizer of the exhibition will work side by side with National Institute for Food and Drug Control, FDA, IPEC China to hold" Excipient and Packaging Materials Conference" to facilitate the development of Chinese excipient industry and strengthen the cooperation and exchange between Chinese and international enterprises. "2011 China Pharmaceutical and Cleanroom Technology International Training", co-organized by Shanghai Indoor Contamination Control Industry Association, Committee of Food and Drug Purification Testing of Shanghai Indoor Contamination Control Industry Association, China Center for Pharmaceutical International Exchange, Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai)Co., Ltd., will also be held during the exhibition. The theme of the training is "Important Role of Environment Control in Pharmaceutical Production".

During CHINA-PHARM 2011, more than 20 forums and seminars will be staged, including "Safe Production of TCM Forum" ,"Drug Information Association China Annual Clinical Data Management Workshop", "WHO Pre-qualification Programme Seminar", "the Application of Alfa Laval Centrifugal Technology in Biopharmaceutical Industry", "Risk Assessment of Clean Room Microorganism".
